Joan Cordell did it all, from acting, modeling and founding a school for girls to statistics. Ultimately, she established what has become a treasury of construction and construction information: Cordell, a company now celebrating its golden anniversary.

"We believed in our new vision of data as an essential tool, and it was about explaining and promoting that vision," she said. "At the end of the day, it's amazing how people welcome you when you show them respect."
When Joan founded the company in the 1960s, the work environment she set up was very modern for the time, including flexible work schedules , performance-oriented metrics and a focus on work-life balance.
Her intellect and determination were such that, despite being a woman in a male-dominated industry, she suffered some setbacks.
