Canberra has completed several fast-track infrastructure projects that have supported local jobs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The infrastructure projects are expected to provide Canberra residents with better services and make the city a viable option for property seekers.
Chris Steel, Minister of Transportation and Municipal Services for Canberra, said these projects have helped support the local economy, especially the employment sector.
"These community projects were carried out alongside work on the ACT government's largest pipeline of major projects to protect and create jobs while providing the infrastructure our city needs – so we can bounce back better," said he declared.
One completed project involved upgrading 13 local shopping malls in older suburbs to help support local businesses.
“We have also invested in improving connectivity in our active transportation and transit networks, with two new park-and-ride lots now available in Lyneham and Evatt, the next Heysen Street Link stop completed, and a new bike and facility. ride ready for use on Barry Drive, ”said Steel.
The city also built two new modern public toilets at Tuggeranong Lake and John Knight Memorial Park.
Additionally, the city has increased asphalt patching at various locations across the territory to repair potholes. This is in addition to the city's annual road resurfacing program.
“To complement this work program, we have invested in new bus stops and heard from the community on the relocation of existing bus stops in growing suburbs such as Taylor, Coombs, Wright and Denman Prospect,” said declared Steel.
