The Darwin Local Council invested $ 5 million to improve infrastructure and amenities in the city's suburbs.
The investment will go to the council's Better Suburbs Projects program, which aims to improve streetscapes and community infrastructure in local suburbs. This is part of the council & # 39; s commitment to realize a vision of a 'city of color'.
The project includes new exercise stations, lighting upgrades, and improvement of suburban shopping villages and sports infrastructure.
The investment is in addition to the joint $ 2.13 million investment by the City of Darwin and the Government of the Northern Territory last year as part of the plan COVID-19 stimulus package.
Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the projects would help boost Darwin's economy as jobs were created for local entrepreneurs.
"Tenders have been closed for one of the demolition and delivery projects for a new public sanitary block and fixed shade structure for basketball court at Chrisp Street Oval, which will see more than $ 300,000 injected into Darwin's economy for this project alone, "Vatskalis said.
The council identified key areas around the municipality that require upgrading, new assets or new equipment.
Overall, the Better Suburbs Projects program is expected to roll out 20 projects, with $ 750,000 allocated to each neighborhood and an additional $ 2 million for street beautification, including works in villages traders from Malak, Karama and Parap.
