After witnessing his father's struggles, Tyron Hyde decided to educate himself, a student in construction economics at the Sydney University of Technology.
"I wrote my thesis on the depreciation of property in 1993, while amortization of property was an unknown tax benefit to real estate investors," he says.
His education and specialization soon bore fruit because of a new ATO decision that made quantity controllers the only professionals qualified to create depreciation patterns. As a result, Hyde became the head of the Washington Brown Damping Group.
"[My knowledge] I helped turn Washington Brown from a two-person business into one of the country's largest metrology firms," ​​he says.
About 25 years ago, when the company was hired as project auditor for a development project in Balmain, NSW, Hyde purchased its first property, realizing a solid profit. He then became passionate about the potential to create wealth through property – by investing in the right assets.
"I like to share my knowledge," he says, "and it is important for me to educate others about the pitfalls of property."
