First Home Owner Grant in South Australia continues to gain traction among first-time homebuyers, with the past few months showing a substantial improvement in demand.
State government figures show that 1,453 first-time homebuyers have received the $ 15,000 grant so far this calendar year. It was the best start for the grant in seven years. For fiscal year 2020-2021, a total of 3,258 buyers have received the grant so far.
The greatest demand came from Adelaide, with Mount Barker, Lightsview, Munno Para and Seaford becoming the major suburbs where the program is most popular.
Of all the first-time homebuyers who received the grant, approximately 2,400 also applied for the first-time home loan deposit program. Those eligible for both received a total grant of $ 40,000.
State Treasurer Rob Lucas said the strong uptake of the program provides further evidence of the strong economic and employment recovery in South Australia after COVID-19.
"We know South Australia is experiencing a massive housing and construction boom, which is great for local jobs, and it's nice to see young first-time homebuyers South Australians lead some of this economic activity, ”he said.
