The Tasmanian State Government continues to redouble its efforts to increase the supply of new social housing.
Roger Jaensch, Minister of State for Housing, said the newly built houses in Glenorchy are part of the state's investment in social housing which will see the construction of 1,500 homes additional by the end of June 2023.
"The houses are a mix of one and two bedroom housing, which supported apprenticeship and jobs during construction and will now help those experiencing homelessness and housing stress in the southern state, "he said.
Mr Jaensch said that as demand for social housing continues to increase in the state, the average time for social housing applicants to get approval has decreased by 10 weeks in the during the last quarter of 2020. This forces the state to launch more socially. housing projects.
Jaensch said the state plans to fund another 50 quick relocation properties in high demand areas statewide, including regional areas.
"Quick relocation properties will boost transitional housing for those moving out of crisis housing such as shelters, including adults with children fleeing domestic violence, while securing longer housing term that meets their needs, ”he said.
