Tenants and landlords in Victoria will receive additional support amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government has announced.
The ban on evictions and rent increases will be extended until the end of the year. This will apply to both residential and commercial rentals.
"Extending the ban on evictions and rent increases is an important step in making sure we are helping tenants and landlords through the coronavirus pandemic and out of it. Other side, "said Melissa Horne, Minister of Consumer Affairs.
In the past four months, nearly 26,000 reduced rental agreements have been registered with Consumer Affairs Victoria. Advisory and dispute resolution services will remain in place, according to the state government announcement.
The Victoria Small Business Commission recorded more than 7,900 rental inquiries from small business owners and landlords. About nine out of ten requests resulted in common ground between tenants and landlords.
Commercial landlords will now be required to provide rent relief commensurate with the decline in sales of qualifying tenants.
"Equity is a two-way street, and we provide the support that means tenants and landlords can continue to work together to find common ground," said Jaala Pulford, Minister of Small Business.
The state government also announced that it will continue the rental subsidy program, which will provide eligible tenants and residential landlords with up to $ 3,000 in rent payments. Former grant recipients may receive an additional $ 1,000.
The state government also increased the reduction in the property tax from 25% to 50%. Both residential and commercial owners will be able to apply for this relief.
Additionally, a $ 60 million fund for qualifying small business owners will be made available under a "hardship program," which will provide up to $ 3,000 per rental. This means that small businesses that own their business premises will now benefit from the tax break.
