The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has asked the Victoria State Government to allow home improvement companies to return to work.
Home improvement businesses have been unable to operate for several months under the Stage 4 restrictions, and business owners are "crying out for help and feeling broadly. forgotten, ”said Fiona Nield, Victoria Managing Director at HIA.
"For many renovators, the Stage 4 restrictions resulted in financial hardship and a complete work stoppage," Nield said. "Thousands of these small businesses are suffering under the pressure and there is currently no end in sight."
According to Nield, home improvement builders and their customers have "waited too long for the state government to let them know when renovations can begin."
"Prohibited work includes not only work inside an occupied house, but construction work on that land as well," Nield said. "It is not even possible to build a separate house, like an apartment for grandma, on land where there is a separate occupied house."
Although parts of the residential construction industry may have continued under the restrictions, Nield said the impact was not uniform and the area hardest hit by the foreclosure was the renovation business.
"The renovation ban also caused many homeowners to live with incomplete construction work on their homes because they did not have time to complete the ongoing work included in the costs. restrictions, ”Nield said. "Homeowners may have been willing to take unfinished work for six weeks, but now they seem to have to wait much longer before work on their home can be completed as the restrictions go on and on indefinitely."
Nield said the state government should bring "certainty to the home improvement industry and allow it to safely return to work in homes at the next stage of easing. restrictions on October 19. "
“Renovators, their trades and homeowners deserve more support and certainty from the Victorian government,” Nield said. "Now is the time for the government to give them that certainty and allow them to return to work safely."
