The Australian government and Standards Australia will provide access to bush fire standards as part of reconstruction efforts in affected communities.
Access to AS 3959: 2018 The construction of buildings in areas subject to bush fires will be available until the end of June 2021.
The standard provides technical design requirements for the construction of houses in areas subject to bush fires. It aims to improve the ability of buildings to resist threats from bush fires.
"Everything we've heard so far tells us that houses built to standards have worked well. We are currently researching data on how AS 3959: 2018 houses have weathered and work with them. relevant committees to support their ongoing work to assist in this reconstruction phase, "said Adrian O'Connell, CEO of Standards Australia.

Kristin Brookfield, director general of industrial policy at the Housing Industry Association, said that this decision by the government and Standards Australia would facilitate the reconstruction process for builders and owners.
She declared that the publication of the standard would reduce the administrative formalities involved in the design and construction of houses.
"The residential construction industry relies heavily on these technical standards and spends a lot of time and resources to support their development," said Brookfield.
